On a Melbourne beach, police rescued a dolphin

On Monday afternoon, the dolphin got itself into some problems in shallow water in Port Phillip Bay.

Victoria Police rescued a dolphin that had become trapped off the coast of Melbourne.

Following reports of a dolphin stuck in shallow water in Port Phillip Bay, water police were dispatched to Greenwich Reserve in Williamstown just after 4 p.m. on Monday.

Four cops arrived with two inflatable rescue boats, as requested by aquatic animal specialists from Melbourne Zoo.

The dolphin was towed to deeper water by a sling created by the rescue crew.

Before being released, the dolphin was evaluated by marine animal experts.

Leading Senior Constable Tony Christensen described the rescue of “such an amazing creature” as a “privilege.”

“Our members often see dolphins in the bay during patrols and it’s great to see this one back where it belongs,” he added.

“We hope to cross paths again – but this time well away from shore.”
